SMART CARD ISO 7816 IP

The Smart Card ISO 7816  IP is a turnkey solution that provided a standard-based  ISO 7816-3 protocol  to  integrated circuit card designs. It is a comprehensive solution that includes the  analog pads and the digital controller. With a volume production track record of several millions units, it is a rock-solid solution for SIM cards (UICC) or payment cards designs.

Smart Card Interface ISO 7816-3

With a  gate count just below 2900 NAND2 equivalent gate, it is the smallest  ISO7816-3 controller in the industry. It is fully compliant to the ISO 7816-3 standard,  the ETSI TS 102221 standard and to the EMV2000 standard.

The Analog pads can support Class A, B and C.  Analog pads also support a high troughput mode to cut down test time. The Smart Card  ISO 7816-3 IP supports  most F/D values starting from F/D = 8.

Smart Card Standards ISO 7816 is a series of standards that defines integrated circuit cards. It defines everything from mechanical dimensions, electrical interface and software. There are 15 different standard in ISO 7816 designated 7816-1 to 7816-15. Most of the useful information for the hardware controller is to be found on ISO 7816-3 standard.

Smart Card Standards ETSI TS 102 221 is a standard that specifically adress integrated circuit cards for mobile terminals , also known as UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Cards).  UICC is the hardware that hosts the SIM, USIM, CSIM or ISIM applications.

ETU definition ETU (Elementary Time Unit) is defined as follows :

1 ETU = (F/D) * (1/f)

Where F is the clock conversion factor, D is the bit adjustment factor and f is the frequency of the clock applied on the CLK pad - also known as the ISO clock.

F and D authorised values are defined by the standard. The smallest authorised F/D ratio is 5.813. The largest  is 1860. INVIA's Smart Card Interface ISO 7816 IP supports F/D ratios starting at 8.
